Your Google Business Profile is doing more work than your website

It is free, it takes an afternoon, and most South African businesses fill it in halfway and never look again.

What it actually is

Your Google Business Profile is the box that appears on the right of Google when someone searches your business name, and the pin that appears on Maps when someone searches “security company near me”. For a local business it is often seen more than the website itself. Someone searching “gate motor repair Roodepoort” is choosing between three pins, and they are choosing on reviews and photos, not on your homepage.

The parts people skip

Reviews are the whole game

Reviews decide who gets the call. Ask every happy client, and ask them right after the job is done, not three months later. Send them the direct review link on WhatsApp so it is two taps. And here is the part most people miss, ask them to mention what you did for them. “They installed our electric fence in Krugersdorp” is worth more to your ranking than “Great service, thanks.”

Consistency matters more than you think

Your business name, phone number and description must be identical on your website, your Google profile, Facebook, LinkedIn and any directory you are listed on. Not similar, identical. Google matches these to decide whether you are one trustworthy business or three sloppy ones.
